Differences in setup between Dozers, Excavators, Hydraulic Shovels, Electric Rope Shovels

Dozers are typically split between Elevated Sprocket where there is both a front and a rear idler whereas the Oval configuration has the sprocket at the rear only. It is always important to ensure the correct number of Track Rollers when setting up these machines. Elevated sprocket machines have higher ground clearance than the oval configuration, and special attention is given to Track Tension, amount of scalloping of the links as well as the Cannon Extension on these types of machines.

Excavators

Excavator setup will always include the front Idler and rear sprocket. When setting up these machines, it is important to ensure the correct number of carrier rollers and then the correct number of Track Rollers

Shovels

Shovels each have different shaped components, and no 2 models are the same. However the component types are always the same in that there will be: Idler, Sprocket, Upper(Carrier) Roller, Lower(Track) Roller. In some machines there is a Chain consisting of a link, bush and shoe, and in other configurations, the Shoe, link and bush are one component, a Track Pad with Pins. This family of machines will typically have multiple measurements on the Track Pad and the sprocket, each having distinct wear limits. Each of these measurements will be setup as a child component of the parent.

Electric Rope Shovels

Undercarriage on Electric Rope shovels include the normal components found on any machine, Track pad/Crawler Shoe, Idler, Tumbler (Sprocket), Lower Roller, Carrier Roller/Guides. The big difference with these are that each component will have multiple measurement points each having distinct limits. These are referred to as child components of the parent component.
